Tough Day at Chicagoland Leads to Long Days and Nights for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (September 1, 2010) – After a early-race incident at Chicagoland Speedway last Saturday, the Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing teamed returned to the shop in Indianapolis to do a complete rebuild of the No. 10 car for this weekend’s Firestone Indy Lights race at BIOMAX EVENTS , Round 12 of 13.

On Lap 6 of the 67-lap race, the No. 26 of Charlie Kimball got loose and made contact with Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing driver Gustavo Yacamán, pushing him into the wall. The crash ended the day for both drivers, and created a lot of work for the team.

The incident caused damage to the body work, all four corners, the engine and the gear box. The team is working around the clock to prepare the car in time for this Saturday’s race at BIOMAX EVENTS , the penultimate round of Firestone Indy Lights.

“I was very disappointed with what happened at Chicago,” Yacamán said. “I had nothing to do with the incident or had any way to avoid it. I feel really sorry for the crew because they put in a great amount of effort and passion into what they do and that was the last thing they deserved.”

The 15th place finish dropped Yacamán to ninth points, but with two races left, he is still only 22 points behind sixth-place Dan Clarke. Good finishes this weekend in Kentucky and next month at Homestead would help move the young Colombian higher in the point standings.

“Coming from such a bad weekend at Chicago, it’s hard to stay positive for this weekend’s race, but I will go into the Next Event with a focus on getting back on to the podium. All the crew from Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing is working together with the Wayne Taylor Racing crew to get the car together in time. I want to thank all of them for working those extra hours. Hopefully, we can turn around what happened at Chicago and end up on the podium at Kentucky.”

First practice is Friday, September 3rd at 9 a.m. and qualifying is scheduled for Noon. Another practice session will be held at 6:15 p.m. The race will go green Saturday, September 4th 5:30 p.m. All times are ET.

Tickets can be purchased at www.kentuckyspeedway.com or by calling 888-652-7223. The event can be seen live on www.indycar.com.

The Colombian Gustavo "Tigrillo" Yacamán is supported by CREPES & WAFFLES, MAC BATTERIES, TUVACOL, SSANGYONG, GASES DE OCCIDENTE, SIESA, CINE COLOMBIA, COEXITO and ALCALDIA DE CALI.
